Broughton (11-1, 6-1) wrapped up the first half of Cap-8 play with a 25-13, 25-20, 21-25, 25-17 win at Sanderson (7-8, 3-4) on Thursday night.  The Caps are tied with Leesville Road and Wakefield atop the league standings with 6-1 records.  Sanderson claimed an 8-5 lead to open the first set but Holli Smith's 12-point service run gave the Caps an 18-8 advantage.  That outburst featured 3 aces from Smith and 3 kills from Nan Parrish.  Kills by Grace Youngblood and Kalee Vanderhorst ended the game.  The Spartans held a 10-9 edge in the second stanza but a kill by Peyton Kendall tied the game and three kills from Youngblood pushed the Capitals ahead 13-11. Another Vanderhorst kill gave Broughton the lead for good at 18-17 and a block and a kill by Jade Demps made it 21-18. Another Vanderhorst kill closed out the set.  Broughton took a 19-15 lead in the third frame but Sanderson outscored the Caps 10-2 down the stretch to force a fourth set. Broughton jumped out to a 4-1 lead to begin game four behind successive aces from Demps.  The Spartans pulled to within one at 10-9 but three kills from Vanderhorst and an ace by Amber Russell keyed a 9-3 run that gave Broughton a commanding 19-12 lead.

Kalee Vanderhorst led a balanced Capitals offense with 17 kills (.341), 19 digs and 2 blocks.  Grace Youngblood piled up 13 kills (.571) and Jade Demps collected 11 kills, 5 digs and 4 aces.  Nan Parrish pounded out 10 kills (.529) and Claire Sawyer dished out 46 assists and picked up 14 digs.  Holli Smith had a match-high 6 aces and 14 digs and Amber Russell chipped in 12 digs and 2 aces.  Alden Willis scooped up 9 digs.
