Broughton (8-0, 3-0) defeated Heritage (3-5, 0-3) 25-8, 25-8, 25-14 on Thursday night in Raleigh. The Caps jumped to a 13-4 lead in the first set behind back to back kills by Jade Demps and Nan Parrish. Another kill by Demps capped a 13-2 run to close the game. Kalee Vanderhorst's kill snapped a 5-5 tie and sparked a 14-1 outburst that included 13 consecutive service points from Amber Russell. A block by Demps and Peyton Kendall ended the second stanza. The Caps claimed a 5-0 advantage to begin the third set behind Claire Sawyer's 5 service points. The Huskies pulled to within 14-10 before another kill by Vanderhorst spurred a 6-0 streak to make it 20-10. Holli Smith pounded out an ace on match point.
Kalee Vanderhorst paced a balanced Cap attack with 11 kills (.435) and added a team-high 8 digs. Jade Demps chipped in 10 kills (.421), 7 digs and 4 blocks and Nan Parrish tallied 7 kills (.538). Grace Youngblood posted 5 kills (.235) and Peyton Kendall collected 4 kills (.250) and 3 blocks. Claire Sawyer recorded 28 assists, 3 digs and 2 blocks and Amber Russell had 3 aces and 3 digs. Alden Willis scooped up 7 digs and Holli Smith picked up 3 digs.
The Capitals host Wake Forest (3-7, 1-2) next Tuesday (4:30/5:30) before traveling to Leesville Road (7-2, 2-1) on Thursday.
