Caps Soccer Blanks Wake Forest 1-0

On Alumni Night, the Broughton Capitals (11-4-1, 5-3) used a second half goal from Sophomore Andrew Rossetti along with some amazing saves from Junior Clay Oxford to defeat Wake Forest 1-0.

Wake Forest was definitely ready for the Caps the second time around and proved to be a much tougher opponent than our first game. The Caps dominated possession in the first half, but couldn't create the quality needed to finish in the final third. Edson, Donovan and Lucas had our best chances in the first half.

Coach Brannan's halftime talk must have sparked the boys as Broughton scored less than two minutes into the second half as Sophomore Ivey O'Brien sent a long ball to the head of Edson Candela-Perez - who headed off the post and the rebound was headed home by Andrew Rossetti on the back post.

Throughout the game, Broughton suffered injuries and the depth of the squad showed through as Coach was able to play almost the entire squad with no loss to intensity and quality. That said, the last 10 minutes were a nail-biter as Wake Forest had several chances to score and Clay stopped all of them to give the Caps the W.

It gets no easier for the Caps as we prepare for the top two teams in the Cap-8 next week with a game at Leesville Road on Monday and then at home - against league leaders Millbrook who will be looking for revenge against us on Wednesday.

A final, and special thanks to all the former Caps who came to Alumni night last night.
