Broughton notches a 2-1 road win over Enloe

Broughton eked out a narrow 2-1 victory over Enloe Wednesday night after failing to convert several scoring opportunities.

The Caps controlled possession for most of the game, with the Eagles struggling to get the ball across midfield for much of the second half. But Broughton sent several shots wide or high, failed to connect on corners or crossing passes, and suffered some difficult bounces in the box.

Abby Manring and Maggie Gall
Broughton scored once in each half, with junior Abby Manring striking first in the 14th minute, off of an assist from sophomore Ava Neijna. In the second half, junior Maggie Gall nailed a shot from the edge of the 18 in the 64th minute to give the Caps a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Abby Finan had the assist.

Enloe made things tense late in the game when they scored on a corner kick in the 71st minute to narrow the gap to 2-1. Broughton managed to prevent any additional chances, and held on for the 2-1 victory to even their record in conference play at 3-3.

Earlier, the Broughton junior varsity defeated the Enloe junior varsity 2-0. Lynde Flanders scored from 25 yards out about 15 minutes into the game to get the scoring started. Kate Lewis added an insurance goal midway through the second half when she scored on a beautiful through ball from Kaia Beeson. Keeper Emma Passey, along with the Caps strong back line, recorded the shutout.

Next up is a non-conference road game against Middle Creek on Thursday.
