The Caps rolled into Kannapolis Friday to participate in the 5th Annual North State Challenge. The two day event which was hosted by Irish Creek Golf Club included 21 of the top private and public school teams from across the state.. The par 71 course featured greens rolling at 12 on the stimpmeter which proved very challenging.
The Caps met the challenge finishing second overall in the event to the Cannon School. Cannon which is a private school shot an amazing five under par round on Saturday to top the Caps by 5 shots overall. The next closest competitor was Myers Park High School out of Charlotte which finished 18 shots behind Broughton. Broughton's total score of 574 was six over par for the two day event which equates to an average eighteen round score of 71.75.
Broughton had a very solid team effort for the event with all players contributing each one score that counted over the two day event. Individuals scores and accolades for event which included 103 players were as follows:
Jimbo Stanley (SR) 138 (69 and 69) (4 under par) 3rd overall; 1st Team All Tournament
Peter Fountain (FR) 142 (71 and 71) (even par) 7th overall; 2nd Team All Tournament
Patrick Carlin (JR) 144 (71 and 73) (2 over par) 11th overall
Connor Jones ( JR) 151 (78 and 73) (9 over par) 24th overall
Biggs Hawley (SO) 153 (77 and 76) (11 over par) 33rd overall
The Caps resume conference play Monday at Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
