Caps suffer road loss at Middle Creek

The box score from Thursday night's game will show that Middle Creek scored two goals in each half to record a 4-0 win over the visiting Caps.

But they were two very different halves. In the first half, Broughton kept the Middle Creek goalie busy with multiple scoring chances and activity in the box, but were unable to find the back of the net. At one point, sophomore Ava Neijna struck a beautiful cross on a corner that hit the far post and bounced out.

Meanwhile, Middle Creek used a strong counter attack to convert two of its limited scoring opportunities in the first half.

The game changed when Middle Creek scored its third goal just a few minutes into the second half. Broughton found itself fighting off repeated attacks by the Mustangs for much of the rest of the game, and was not able to create nearly as many offensive chances as they had in the first half.

The non-conference loss brings Broughton's overall record to 6-4, with a 3-3 record in conference play. Up next week are conference matches with Heritage and Wake Forest.

Earlier, the junior varsity suffered a similar fate, losing 4-0 after Middle Creek scored two goals in the first nine minutes of the game.
