Caps Advance to East Finals

The Broughton Girls' Lacrosse Team defeated the Hoggard Vikings 11-9 at home Friday night to advance to the East Finals in the NCHSAA playoffs.

The game was hard fought from start to finish.  The Vikings started the game with a 3-0 run, and did not allow a Broughton goal in the first nine minutes of the game.  The Caps then heated up, and tied the game at 4-4 at the 13:00 mark in the first half.  Hoggard responded by scoring twice to take a 6-4 lead at the half.

Broughton scored the first two goals of the second half to tie the game at 6-6.  Hoggard scored again to take a brief lead, which the Caps quickly brought to a 7-7. Tie. Then at 10:13, the Caps took their first lead, 8-7, after which Hoggard scored again to tie the game at 8. At 8:54 the Caps scored to take a lead they never relinquished.  Broughton then fought off the Vikings in the waning minutes to win 11-9.

Four players scored for Broughton:  Carol Seigler (5), Margaret Anne Warner (3), EJ Fuller (2), and Sydney Russell (1).

The Caps defense were outstanding throughout the game in the face of the Vikings' relentless attack. Goalie Carson Harvey had two critical saves at the end of the game to preserve the Caps' slim lead.

The Caps resume play Tuesday night at home in the East Finals against Cardinal Gibbons.
