Seniors Celebrate With Victory Over Enloe

Friday night was filled with emotions as we celebrated the 10 senior women on this year’s Broughton Women’s Lacrosse team.  As the fans celebrated in the stands, the seniors celebrated on the field as all the seniors got in on the action.  In the first half, it was the potent Broughton offense and the stingy defense led by Senior Co-Captain Reed Procter giving Broughton a 13 – 3 half-time lead.  In the 2nd half, the defensive players also got offensive and the final score was Broughton 18 and Enloe 6.  With the win, the team finished the conference regular season undefeated with an 8-0 record and an overall record of 14-1.

While the normal offensive players got the scoring going in the first half, it was Senior Marcy Waters that got the defense started when she scooped up a ground ball and rambled all the way down to the offensive zone where she found the back of the net for a goal.  In the 2nd half we saw Senior defenseman Lawson Strickland get the edge on 3 defenders and fire a rocket in the upper corner of the net.  A few minutes later, Carol Seigler had another one of her team leading 6 assists with a pinpoint pass to defense-man Sarah Goodwin Brook, who caught the goalie by surprise with a quick wrister for the 3rd goal by the defense.

As always, the Broughton offense was too much for the Eagles to slow down.  The team continued to show its versatility as 11 different players scored during the game.  Of the 18 goals scored, the senior team members accounted for 14 of those goals.  Senior Co-Captains Sidney Russell and Carol Seigler led the offensive scorers with 3 goals each, followed by fellow seniors Georgia Davis and Wooten Joyce with 2 goals each and senior Katie Childrey rounding out the senior scoring with 1 goal.  Leah Renee Burgess led the underclassmen with 2 goals and Emily Clark Joyner and Lily DiCaprio added a goal each.

We also saw a strong goalie performance by Senior Carson Harvey in the first half with 4 saves and by Emily Nicholas in the second half with 3 saves.

After a strong regular season, the Broughton Women’s Lacrosse team will now begin preparation for the playoffs, as they await the playoff brackets to be released by Tuesday.
