Rainy skies cooperated just long enough to squeeze in the final Cap 7 golf match of the year at Hedingham Golf Club, hosted by Southeast Raleigh.
The Caps fired a 2 over par team total of 142 to complete the sweep of the season's 7 conference matches. Once again, Cardinal Gibbons put up a fight, posting 145, and Leesville finished 3rd at 153.
The Caps were led by match Medalist Peter Fountain, who tied Ryan Macri of Cardinal Gibbons at 1 under 34. Frank Gilliam contributed an even par 35, Biggs Hawley shot 36, Connor Jones and Patrick Carlin shot 37 and Britt Stroud shot 38.
Over the course of a full season, the Caps' top 4 scores in 7 matches totaled an impressive 1 over par. Since shooting 10 over in the first match of the season, the Caps went 9 under the rest of the way.
As the final match began, Biggs Hawley held a solid 4 stroke lead for Player of the Year honors. Paired with pursuers Britt Stroud and Gibbons' Chris Sperrazza, Hawley cemented the title with a solid 1 over 36, but the honor was really won with Hawley's combined 8 under in the previous two matches, finishing the full season at 7 under par.
Cap 7 Player of the Year Biggs Hawley was joined on the Cap 7 All-Conference team by teammates Britt Stroud, Peter Fountain, Patrick Carlin and Connor Jones.
Seniors Patrick Carlin and Connor Jones played their final Cap 7 match as All-Conference performers, with Patrick Carlin making All-Conference in each of his 4 years on the team.
Next up for the Caps is the Regional tournament at Raleigh Country Club on May 1st, with the top 3 teams advancing to the State tournament in Pinehurst.
Go Caps!
