Soccer: Caps earn road win at Holly Springs

Broughton took a break from Cap 7 play for a Friday night game at Holly Springs, and escaped with a tough 2-1 victory.

Holt and Gilchrist
The Caps got on the scoreboard first, in the 11th minute, when sophomore Elizabeth Gilchrist drove home a ball bouncing around in front of the goal after a corner kick by freshman Morgan Holt. But, in keeping with the back-and-forth nature of the first half, the Golden Hawks leveled the score at 1-1 about ten minutes later after just missing on a corner kick a few minutes earlier.

Broughton got the winning score in the 59th minute when Holt found the back of the net off a free kick from sophomore Adair Warner. The Caps defense, which welcomed sophomore keeper Sydney Spoor back from injury, held off several attacks by Holly Springs late in the game to secure the road win.

The Caps return to conference play with a busy week coming up. Broughton hosts Southeast Raleigh on Monday, plays at Millbrook on Wednesday, and hosts Enloe on Thursday.

Earlier, the Broughton JV dropped a tough 0-5 loss the Golden Hawks.
